Thumbs up for Alben Works
Planning permission has been granted for our proposals to redevelop 1-2 Legge Lane, a dilapidated postwar factory in the Jewellery Quarter soon to be demolished, to make way for an innovative mixed use development.
We have created a vibrant addition to the Jewellery Quarter which will provide a balance of different uses for both living and working on the site and continue the regeneration of Legge Lane.
The frontage building ‘completes the street’ by filling in a gap that has been there since the Second World War and providing a mixture of excitingly designed split level live/work units with a double height office units at ground floor. This mix will support the development of small scale artisan uses in the Quarter.
Behind this we have a courtyard of nine 3 and 4 storey contemporary townhouses, designed with a double height living areas at the top below a dynamic north light roof which will scoop daylight into the heart of the spaces. These dynamic houses are contemporary and yet subtle, with forms and materials taking their cue from the traditional industrial architecture of the Quarter.
Work on this £5m development, consisting of offices, 4 Live/ Work Units and 9 four storey courtyard townhouses, is due to commence on site later this year.
